The Art of Transformation

MULTIPLE PATHS, MULTIPLE VIEWS, MULTIPLE JOURNEYS: EXPLORING THE COMPLEXITY AND BEAUTY OF PATTERN MAKING

YULIA YADRYSHNIKOVA'S EXHIBITION WAS PRESENTED AT PALACIO DE ALTAMIRA (MADRID) IN MAY 2017

A PATTERN IS A 2D OBJECT THAT DREAMS OF BECOMING A 3D GARMENT; AN EXERCISE OF FUTURISM, DIVINATION AND IDEAL ARCHITECTURE

THIS EXHIBITION IS THE RESULT OF MULTIPLE JOURNEYS BETWEEN THESE TWO WORLDS (PRESENT AND FUTURE, 2D AND 3D, CONCEPT AND OBJECT) AND REFLECTS THE FORMAL AND POETIC EXPERIMENTS OF YULIA YADRYSHNIKOVA
THROUGH A CALEIDOSCOPIC DISPLAY OF MIRRORS, TRANSPARENT PANELS AND CONTOURS, THE VIEWER'S ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO SPECIFIC DETAILS CREATING A COMPLEX AND SURROUNDING EXPERIENCE
THE VISITOR EXPLORES A COLLECTION OF INTRIGUING GARMENTS, IMAGES AND OBJECTS THAT HELP TO GENERATE A DELICATE ATMOSPHERE AND A REFLECTION ON THE ENIGMATIC NATURE OF THE BODY, ITS HIDDEN PROPORTIONS AND THE OCCULT TRANSCENDENCE OF CLOTHING
TRANSPARENT PANELS:
THE WHITE DRESS HANGS BETWEEN TRANSPARENT PANELS WITH THE PARTS OF THE GARMENT PATTERN DRAWN ON THOSE. TRANSPARENT PANEL AS A REFERENCE TO TRACING PAPER, A TOOL OF REPLICATION, AND AT THE SAME TIME AS A KIND OF 2D PRISM, THROUGH WHICH PATTERN MAKER SEES AN UPCOMING 3D PIECE.
CONTOURS:
THE DUSTY LIGHT ROSE SLEEVELESS COAT HANGS BEING SURROUNDED BY SEVERAL PLASTIC COPIES OF THE SAME PART OF THE PATTERN MADE FOR THE WING, A SPECIFIC DETAIL OF THIS GARMENT. THE PLASTIC CONTOURS REFER TO THE PATTERN MAKING PROCESS AND TRANSLATE THE PAPER PIECES USED BY THE DESIGNER.
MIRRORS:
THE BLUE-BLACK DRESS HANGS AS WELL AS SEVERAL PARTS OF THE PATTERN. THERE IS A MIRROR SPACE AROUND WHICH MULTIPLIES THE GARMENT AND ITS SPECIFIC DETAILS ALONG WITH THE RESPECTIVE PATTERN PIECES. MIRROR AS A REFERENCE TO IMAGE REFLECTION AND AS A SYMBOL OF SYMMETRY/ASYMMETRY.
